Privacy policy
Draft — last updated before launch. This page will be finalised with legal review.
Who we are
DogBible (“we”, “us”) is a guide to dog-friendly places across the UK. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account data. Your email address when you sign in with a magic link. We store it to identify your account and to send you sign-in links. Your email is verified when you use a sign-in link, and some features (such as posting reviews) require a verified email.
- Content you post. Reviews, dog profiles, diary entries and memorial pages you create, along with the display names you choose.
- Preferences. Your chosen maps app and notification preferences.
- Technical data. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, pages requested) kept for security and debugging, and retained for a limited period.
What we don't collect
- We don't use advertising trackers or sell data.
- We don't ask for your location; the maps on this site don't track you.
- We don't store passwords — sign-in is by emailed, single-use links.
How we use your data
- To provide your account and sign you in.
- To show the content you post (reviews, profiles, memorials) to other visitors, subject to moderation.
- To send you the notifications you have chosen (for example, replies to your reviews). You can change these on your account page.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse (rate limiting, spam prevention).
Cookies and local storage
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage for your theme and maps-app choices. No third-party cookies are set.
How long we keep data
- Accounts: until you ask us to delete them.
- Reviews and profiles: while your account is active, or until you delete them. Memorial pages are kept as a lasting tribute within the lifetime of the service; we will always tell you before any change to how memorials are stored, and we will never describe them as permanent.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
Sharing
We share data only with the services that run the site: our hosting provider and our email provider (to send sign-in links and your chosen notifications). We never sell or rent personal data.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your personal data, and you can object to or restrict certain uses. To exercise any of these, email us and we will respond within one month.
